How many lessons will I actually need?
The DVSA average is around 45 hours with an instructor plus 20 hours of private practice. Most of my pupils are somewhere between 30 and 45, but it genuinely varies. I'll give you an honest estimate after two or three lessons rather than guessing now.
Should I learn in a manual or an automatic?
An automatic licence only lets you drive automatics, but people usually pass faster because there's less to think about. If you're nervous, struggle with coordination, or you know you'll be buying an electric car, automatic is a sensible choice. Happy to talk it through.
Do I need my provisional before my first lesson?
Yes. You must have your provisional licence in hand before you can drive on a road, and I'll need to see it at the start of the first lesson. Apply on GOV.UK; it usually takes about a week.
Can I use your car for the test?
Yes, that's included if you've been learning with me. If you've learned elsewhere or with family, I hire the car out for tests at £120, which covers a warm-up lesson beforehand and the test itself.
What if I need to cancel a lesson?
Just let me know 48 hours ahead and it costs nothing. Under 48 hours I do have to charge for the slot, purely because I can't usually fill it that late.
